Contra Anniversary Collection (Contra/Super C) playthrough
And back to the NES on Steam set. Two more collections to look at. This one didn't take that long, as I knew it wouldn't. I used the extra lives code to get a look at the games. And they're good! It's hard to really say more than that for these two games. Everyone already knows Contra is an NES classic. It's challenging, but not unfair. And, to be entirely honest, not even THAT challenging overall. Even without the lives code, the game gives you lots of ability to avoid attacks. It just takes some practice, but you absolutely could get through this game without the code. Super C was lesser known, though as I played through it it did dig up memories that, oh yea, I had played this as a kid. Only once or twice, but I had gone through it with a friend. But it was never AS popular. Honestly, I do think I like the first one better, but there is some really neat stuff in the second game as well.
But then the set just shows us how unloved we really were. The Famicom version of Contra is amazing, with added cut scenes and a map scene, as well as some more map elements. Wow. Absolutely wow. As good as Contra was here, I want that version in English. That looked utterly amazing. As well as the booklet informing us that there was a third Contra game on NES, but released in the US only, that's not part of the set. Even if it wasn't any good, when as that stopped me from wanting to at least see the game? Shame it's not included.
Still, it's a great set with great games and I do highly recommend it. Only one more set to look at and this journey will be complete. -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/the_nametag
