Catacomb Armageddon 3-D First Playthrough (via CatacombGL)
The next episode following Catacomb Abyss is Catacomb Armageddon, also known as Curse of the Catacombs. I was pretty sure I remembered seeing my dad play this under the latter title, but I'd never played it at all myself.
As it turns out, there was exactly one enemy type unique to this game that I distinctly remembered from my dad playing it in the 90s. (I'm not sure he even remembers it himself.)
On that subject, there are plenty of new environments and enemy variations in this game. Some even present new hazards, though some of them might've been a tad problematic in execution.
The gameplay mechanics seem identical to Abyss, so there's nothing new in that regard. Where there also isn't anything new, unfortunately, is the final boss. Even worse, it's...no longer just the final boss, as it shows up a surprising number of times. While you could argue that suddenly being presented with more levels after you thought you just defeated the final boss might be a pleasant surprise, the execution left a lot to be desired, and made the endgame feel rather underwhelming.
Here's hoping they manage to do something a little more inventive in the final chapter...
