Wolfenstein 3D Playthrough for first time since the 90s - E1 (via ECWolf)
The idea of replaying Wolfenstein 3D has been bouncing around the back of my head for a while; since I'm waiting for a couple of other early-90s-FPS-inspired releases, now seemed like a good time to do it.
I've played Blake Stone and Rise of the Triad in recent years, but Wolf3d was always a harder sell due to how quickly it can get to feel samey, with its more limited enemy roster and texture set. I certainly felt that set in within this first episode.
That being said, I was kind of surprised how memories started flooding back as soon as I got to the menu music and the red background. This was the first FPS I played, and in some ways this made more of an impression on me in the 90s than Doom did. (Of course, Doom has done a far better job of withstanding the test of time.)
