Ys: The Oath in Felghana Playthrough (Normal), Part 1 (Napishtimania 2025)
0This was the first game played during Napishtimania in April 2025, where I decided to continue right into the Ys games built on the Napishtim engine after having finished a whole bunch of 90s Ys game playthroughs over the previous 4 months.
I've played The Oath in Felghana plenty of times; it is notable as the 2nd Ys game I ever played, and the one that really got me excited about the series. (Ironically, the second Ys game I ever played is the remake of the first I ever played: SNES Ys III. I had the worst possible introduction to the series.)
However, somehow I've never fully completed The Oath in Felghana on Normal difficulty, probably due to a lack of patience in the presence of easier difficulties - Easy tends to operate at a brisk pace, whereas Normal seems to noticeably pad the game with level grinding (thus the reason I've had to post this playthrough in multiple parts).
Playing this again shortly after playing 3 of the 90s versions of Ys III certainly enhanced my appreciation of the details that this game preserves and enhances in terms of environments and enemies.
This segment of the playthrough leaves off at the end of the Elderm Mountains.
