I first became aware of Equaline due to Haruka Tamasaki (who created the Suizin Remix for Crypt of the NecroDancer) having mentioned it on twitter. Honestly, it seemed like the sort of game I'd probably enjoy, so when it got released on Steam... I picked it up almost immediately. =)
Equaline is basically a math-based action puzzle game. The game gives you a grid filled with numbers and mathematical operations (alternating so that numbers are adjacent only to operations, and operations to numbers), and a target value. And in order to solve the puzzle, you have to start with a number, and draw a line that passes through numbers and operations so that the result equals the target value.
Oh, and if anybody was worried, to go along with the "line" motif, the "order of operations" is actually linear... strictly defined by the line itself (operations are handled in order, as the line gets to them)... so you can just calculate things as you get to them, without having to worry about whether a later operation might affect an earlier calculation! =)
"Endless Mode" is the core gameplay mode (there's a time limit, but you earn extra time for each puzzle you solve), but there's also "Mission Mode" (a couple dozen challenges (some of which are definitely harder than others!) with special rules), and "Calculation Battle" (a local 2P Versus Mode (both players get the same puzzle, and race to solve it first), where you can play against a person, a computer opponent, or even have two computer opponents play against each other!).
Recently, I've been playing Hi-speed Endless a lot. It starts out easy, but definitely gets a lot harder later on. ^^;
Anyway, I thought it might be fun to record Hi-speed Endless for this video... so I did. =) It definitely took more than a few tries, but eventually, this run happened. =)
I was mainly aiming to reach Target 100... but actually managed to reach Target 105, a new personal best! There were, of course, a couple puzzles gave me more trouble than they perhaps should have... but then, I suppose that's not too uncommon, when working on so many puzzles in such a short amount of time. ^.^
Oh, I also accidentally hit the "remake" button (R1/RB or L1/LB) on Target 49 (if a puzzle's giving you trouble, you can spend 5s to get a new puzzle!). ^^; Fortunately, the new puzzle wasn't too difficult, though... so the -5s actually ended up not causing any long-term troubles. =)
Cavalcadence Milestone: 7 Years!
Wow, 7 years.
I remember, quite a while back, I semi-randomly came across a stat about the percentage of active youtube channels that actually make it to 7 years... and that the percentage was quite a bit smaller than I thought it would be! And I found myself thinking about whether I might someday make it to 7 years...
We made it. =)
Seven years... over 800 videos from over 40 different games... over 215,000 views spanning over 11,000 hours... and it all started simply because I just wanted a place to upload some Aubergine videos. ^^
So once again, thanks to all of you, especially those of you who have been here practically since the beginning! I mean, I've basically just been posting videos of games I enjoy... but it's still definitely nice seeing that some of you are enjoying the videos as well! ^_^
Anyway, see you at the next milestone, whatever and whenever it may be!
