So... yep, this is basically a "how to kill Red Dragons with Mary" video! ^_^
Like a lot of other players, when I first started playing Mary, the Red Dragon was one of the enemies who gave me the most trouble... not because Mary got hit, but because of the lamb. =p The most obvious way of dealing with Red Dragons (staying above/below the dragon, and chipping away at its health while retreating) only worked if there was enough vertical space... so if there wasn't enough space, and Mary hadn't gotten a weapon that could kill the dragon in a few hits... I wasn't quite sure what to do (other than letting Mary get hit) to keep the lamb safe. ^^;
Anyway, I'd been meaning to test out Red Dragon strategies in practice mode... and finally got around to it! =)
After testing various things, I figured out three basic strategies (which don't require intentionally getting hit or skipping a beat) for dealing with Red Dragons. I don't know if these are the best or most efficient strategies... but they do work! =)
So anyway, if any of you are having Red Dragon troubles with Mary... hopefully this video will be of some help!

0:12 Vertical strategy (1x7 & 10 beats, starting from first hit): Stay above/below the dragon, hit, retreat, repeat.
- Most of you probably already figured out this strategy, but I'm including it here both for the sake of completeness, and also because sometimes it is the best strategy to use. It does require a lot of vertical space, though... often more than 7 tiles (e.g. the first example in this video technically required 9 tiles), because of the initial position of the dragon!
0:36 Horizontal strategy (5x2 & 15 beats, starting from first hit): Bait the dragon into breathing fire, dodge, then hit the dragon twice while it recovers. Retreat, repeat, then hit the dragon twice from below to finish it off.
- This strategy only requires a 5x2 area (probably a lot easier to quickly find than a safely usable 1x7 or 1x9 area), and it's pretty fast. =)
1:07 Circular strategy (3x4 & 34 beats, starting from first hit): Circling the dragon in a way that keeps the lamb safe, and allows Mary to attack every half circle (from the left and right sides).
- This is kind of Mary's version of the "Dragon Dance"... though it does require more beats (16 for a 2-damage cycle) and more space (3x4) than Cadence's Dragon Dance (8 beats for 2-damage cycle, and 2x2). ^^
Combining strategies!
- And of course, you can combine strategies as necessary! For example, if you do 2 damage with Vertical, then run out of vertical space, you can switch to Horizontal and finish off the dragon that way.
- Also, the Circular strategy can be especially useful, since it allows you to get safely to the other side of the dragon (left/right or up/down). So if, for example, you're going Vertically down, and run out of room, you can Circle to the top, and finish off the dragon going up instead!
- etc, etc.
