(CCPlays) Genesis Alpha One (4 of ?): Ship Assault (Boarding another ship), Looking for Panels
In this episode of GAO, we explore some shipwrecks (and killed my avatar again) with the "ship assault" module, where we raid broken ships for whatever resources are left... while we locate some aluminum panels to expand our ship and its crew complement...
Welcome to Genesis Alpha One, where your survival, and humanity's survival, is all up to you.
One of my regrets is using up most of my "panels", which are required to build some structures such as the Greenhouse. Without Greenhouse producing enough oxygen, we can't expand our crew. Each greenhouse, with regular oxygen plants like fern (or if you're lucky, palm) with 5 planters can produce at least 10 units of oxygen (more if you assign crew), and every crew member needs at least one unit of oxygen. Building crew quarters would be of no use if we can't get them enough oxygen to breathe. So most of my exploration is for more panels. And it seems I've finally found some.
We did find another merchant, but they don't have anything I want to trade for.
We did discover a Genesis planet, and it even has an O2 atmosphere. HOWEVER, it is in a redzone where the system is overrun with "Cosmic Spores". Without shields, I don't believe I stand a chance against them, so regretably I have to let that system go. It also says I need to have at least a crew of 20 to colonize that planet anyway.
Oh, and we got the ship assault module built, so I am going to raid a couple shipwrecks, killed my avatar (again) by using a flamethrower wrong (seems using it against a wall is a VERY bad idea). Where did I get a flamethrower, you ask? By raiding one of the ships and got the weapon blueprint.
Oh, and one of the raids also yielded a ship room upgrade which I also used as alien tracking and I put that in the tractor beam room (the first one I got I put it in the hangar room).
An infestation temporarily overrun my "Deposit" room due to inefficient placement of turrets, but that was quickly remedied.
Finally got the 2nd greenhouse operational. And with 4 plants in storage, then finding a 5th, I can definitely get the crew to 20 or more. I am going to do this in two phases... First, get crew to 15, and get everybody to at least a sergeant if not a lieutenant. THEN expand the crew to 20/21 (I have a palm that produces 3 units of oxygen instead of 2). With 20+ crew we should be able to man almost all of the modules all the time.
Next on the priority: hyperdrive, to level 2 or level 3 or 4 (probably 2 is enough).
Note about hyperdrive: default hyperdrive, level 1, lets you scan 1 square around the ship, so total of 9 squares (including self-square), and can jump one square. Adding a hyperdrive module upgrades you to level 2 which scans 3 squares around ship, so 49 squares, and can jump 3 squares, but needs to consume 1 fuel rod (refined from uranium) per square if you jump further than 1 square. You can upgrade hyperdrive to level 3 or 4 (scans and jumps of 5 and 7 respectively), but it seems to be overkill. Having a sensor range gives the bridge crew more scanning to do, and more chances to avoid the rogue captains that want to board you as you can spot them and run away from them.
