USS Seawolf is a very capable submarine... but putting it in very shallow waters (often under 100m) means it will have a hard time, esp. when the enemy forces have land-based anti-sub patrols.
(Scenario: Junks on Parade, Y2000, USN vs PLAN)
In this scenario, US Navy, circa Y2K, is ordered to "deal with" a PLA Navy amphibious group, composed of various landing ships plus escorts, both indigenous and ex-Soviet, sailing toward Taiwan. And they will have heavy anti-sub support from Chinese May maritime patrol planes, plus their internal anti-sub helo support. It is time for... Attack of the Seawolf! (Yes, I'm aware it's the title of a submarine novel from Michael DiMercurio)
------
Actual attack went quite well. Identified all ships in the group and was slightly concerned they had 2 merchants in the middle. Decided to NOT engage those two merchants. Turns out the sea was noisy enough that a whole spread of 7 torpedoes (keep a MOSS decoy "just in case") was launched with no reaction despite lack of thermal layers or ducting. Then it's a matter of refining the solution and sink every ship I can see (except the trawler to the west, and the two merchants, which technically are valid targets, but decided not to engage them).
Yes, I kinda regret NOT engaging them. Probably could have used Harpoons on them as there were no escorts left to intercept them. And yes, that last torpedo managed to NOT hit the 2 merchants.
