Welcome back for today's CDP on newly revealed cards, this time doing a double take on the brand new Goblin Rider archetype debuting in PHNI. This theme builds upon the existing Goblin support pool, and it is a high-speed Xyz Spam archetype, specifically supporting Rank 3 monsters. Goblin Rider Dug the Assaulter is the key monster, able to Special Summon itself from the hand by detaching a material from a monster on the field, and when you do, it tutors a Goblin Rider S/T. On the support side, Grand Arrival of the Goblin Riders is also important, as it tutors any Goblin monster, then you can detach a material from a monster on the field to Special Summon a Level 4 or lower Goblin from the hand. Since this theme's gimmick is clearly detaching material, it only makes sense that the theme's ace R3NK Xyz Monster, Goblin Rider Big-Head Gabonga, triggers when a material is detached from a monster on the field, and when it does, it attaches another monster on the field as material. This theme doesn't just play on your turn, as Goblin Rider Clutter the Noisy and Goblin Rider Boon the Machspeed can each detach a material from a monster on the field to Special Summon themselves from the GY, during your opponent's Main Phase. Finally, with all this detaching, this theme runs extremely well with the Armored Xyz archetype, giving you yet another way to disrupt the opponent's board and still their monsters as material! Now that we've covered the theme in general, I'm going to dive into the gameplan of the two builds in the video.
For the first build today, I present to you Goblin Rider Acid Golem Control. This deck aims to summon out Number 30: Acid Golem of Destruction, strip it of material, and send it over to the opponent's board. Remember, while it is on the field, the controlling player can't Special Summon, so that can be a major thorn in an opponent's side. As for how to get it to the opponent's field, this variant deploys multiple options, from Mystic Box and Creature Swap, to my favorite, another R3NK Xyz Monster: Number 26: Spaceway Octobypass. You see, while Octobypass is on the field, if a monster attacks directly, control of it shifts to the opponent at the end of the Damage Step! In support of this gameplan, the Goblin Riders make tons of R3NK Xyz Summons, so there's a natural synergy there, and they also give you ways to get out of sticky situations where your swapping of control fails, as in a pinch, you can always negate the effect of Acid Golem with Goblin Rider Stampede!
As for the second build, we're going to the Zoo, as the Zoodiac theme comes out to play once more on my channel. The Zoodiac archetype consists of Beast-Warrior monsters that can cheat Xyz Summons - using just 1 Zoodiac monster as Xyz Material instead of requiring multiple. With the ability to quickly build up a ton of material for detaching, these themes have perfect synergy with each other, even if the Zoodiac are missing a few of their key cards to the F/L list such as Zoodiac Drident. In its absence, Zoodiac Thoroughblade offers draw power, Zoodiac Whiptail offers non-destructive removal, and we even have enough consistency to warrant running the last Goblin Rider support S/T, Grand Meeting of the Goblin Riders, which can enable the R6NK Xyz Summon of Goblins' Crazy Beast for yet another boss option. Embrace the insanity of a cantankerous crew of Goblins, with the Goblin Rider archetype!
