Although it was released for virtually every platform imaginable at the time, the Atari Lynx version of Batman Returns is notable for a few reasons. Not only was the game bundled with the system for a while, but new Lynx owners who sent Atari their proof of purchase would also get the game for free. It was a showpiece for the platform, and at least in terms of its presentation, you can see why. Batman Returns, as a handheld game, looked better than what many console games looked like at the time. The Lynx version is also unique in terms of its gameplay—it’s a beat ‘em up in which beating ‘em up isn’t a good idea. Your best choice of action in this side-scroller? Run. Batman Returns is a single-player game on the Atari Lynx, no proof of purchase necessary.
