Full Spectrum Warrior brings something new to the military shooter genre. Instead of being a first or third person shooter, it is a simulation and real time strategy game. The player takes command of a division of the Army, and must do what they can to keep the two squads alive. To do this, the player must use real military tactics, such as laying down suppressing fire and leapfrogging squads. The game can be frustrating by not allowing the player to specifically take command and shoot. But the overseeing appeal gives the player's actions more weight, as losing squad members is emotional. The game is very much its own thing and brings something new to a tired genre.
