White: Matthew Doucette (win)
Black: Video Chess (TI-99/4A) (lose)
Result: 1-0
My second game against Video Chess in beginner mode (and I assume normal play style) on the TI-99/4A home computer, via Classic99 emulator.
Video Chess available options:
- Level of Play: Beginner, Novice, or Intermediate
- Style of Play: Normal, Aggressive, or Defensive (I assume "normal" play style is the strongest, from my knowledge of chess engines it is likely the most balanced which is typically the strongest.)
In my first game (http://youtu.be/_8xvSnUjJL0) I played it safe, as I did not know the strength of the program. I won in 63 moves! A long game. In this second game I decided to play aggressive hoping for early mistakes. It worked. I mated Video Chess in 17 moves, which is faster than a game I set up with Stockfish 6, the strongest chess program in the world (http://youtu.be/up7etMTl5o8).
To make Video Chess play black instead of white, using the Classic99 emulator, you must press the Backspace key immediately after the game starts (before it makes a move) as it defaults to playing white.
Classic99 (previously Ami99) is a freeware TI-99/4A emulator for Windows 2000 and up. System ROMs and many cartridges are INCLUDED under license from Texas Instruments: http://www.harmlesslion.com/software/classic99
