Chill Ganon Vibin' - n0ne Ganondorf Highlights - Super Smash Bros. Melee
In the description of a previous video, I had mentioned that I wanted to talk about more... "serious" (for lack of a better term) topics in the descriptions of my videos and people seemed to react positively to the idea so here I go.
So if I had one goal with my YouTube channel, I think more than anything I want to make it a place of positivity. There are many things that I enjoy about having a YouTube channel, but if there were ONE thing I'd want people to take away from it, it'd be that they thought it was a place of positivity.
The reason why I feel so strongly about this is because I've seen other YouTube channels do (in my mind) exactly what I'm describing and it's had a huge impact on me. Day[9]'s video about being relentlessly positive may be my favorite video on all of YouTube, period. Stuff like that has had a huge impact on my life.
And so when I think about how content on YouTube has influenced me, I want to be able to do that for others. Like not necessarily to a life changing degree, but if people just thought "Frudgey's channel is a pleasant" place, I'd be happy. And I think for the most part, that's the case?
Sometimes though I get this desire to preach more about optimism and positive thinking, but I always stop myself for a number of reasons. One of which that you have to know your audience before you can start talking about those things because it's been my experience that not everyone is receptive to the ideals that I believe in (which for the record, is COMPLETELY okay - just because I believe in them doesn't necessarily mean I'm "right")
And also, even though I believe in "positive thinking", I also think that I have a very privileged existence and I don't really have much to complain about. For me, if I complain about something, I see that as a failure of character on MY part as I think I live a life of abundance.
But I know not everyone can say the same - life can be cruel, brutal and indifferent. Life isn't fair. What I don't want to be is the person who says "hey look on the bright side" to someone who truly has been wronged, or really has experienced misfortunate.
So in terms of my audience, because I don't know the circumstances that ANY of you live in, so I never feel justified in trying to preach positivity. Well maybe "preach" is too strong a word, but maybe you get what I'm trying to say.
I feel like context is important whenever you try to give advice, and again you have to know your audience. To give an extreme example, if someone lost their wife and child in the process of childbirth, I couldn't say "hey look on the bright side at least you have less mouths to feed". While *technically* that may be true, that's an extremely tone deaf (and mean) thing to say.
And I guess that's what it comes down to, I know positive thinking works for me, but I can't know if it works for other people so I don't feel comfortable really trying to push it. I think that's what I wanted to say.
Hopefully I didn't come off as arrogant or pretentious in this description.
Unrelated, but I also just want to say that I really appreciate that people interact with the descriptions of the videos; you honestly don't know how happy that makes me.
