The famous Magus battle. Anyone who got this far in the game knows this guy means business and is one of the hardest fights of the entire game especially if you don't know what to do.
Before you come here I HIGHLY recommend to have Frog learn at very least his Heal Single Tech. Trust me, it'll make this fight a whole lot easier.
The first and most important aspect of this fight is Magus' Barrier Change, he will constantly swap between Fire, Water, Lightning and Shadow (physical) elements. Using the wrong element will heal Magus instead of hurting him, so be careful. An additional detail is that using Frog's Masamune will decrease Magus' M.Def, so that can help too.
I brought the most balanced party possible for this fight covering about every angle with Crono, Frog and Lucca's techs. Make sure to have Frog learn Aerial Slash (Leap Attack) so he can use Lightning Rod (Spire) and Red Needle (Red Pin) for massive damage on Lightning and Fire barrier changes respectively. If Magus changes to Shadow barrier, Cleave (Spincut) the jerk with Crono.
In case Magus swaps to an undesirable element you can attack him and force the boss change its elemental barrier until you get something of your favor, but keep in mind Magus will always retaliate with the element of his barrier.
Once you deal enough damage Magus will cast aside his gimmick in favor of reducing his defense to minimal so he can cast the extremely damaging Dark Matter. Don't hold back and unleash EVERYTHING you have but if your party's HP if below 70% heal up immediately, Dark Matter can cause 300+ damage depending on your level and who you brought here.
