The Original Game Boy is one of the biggest 'game changers' in the history of video games, and essentially ushered in the popularity of handheld games. There are many games that will be classic forever. There are, however, a much, much higher number of simply awful, forgettable, or downright weird games. CiB Game Boy Theater shows you some of the games you might not (and shouldn't be...) familiar with.

The Smurfs is one of those 1960s franchises that just won't ever go away for too long, joining Flintstones, Jetson, and Addams Family. Every 15 years or so, The Smurfs are smurfin' back, baby!

This game is alright. I expected a truly terrible experience, but it's not too bad for what clearly is a game made for kids. It's a bit on the difficult side, with a lot of pitfalls into water (auto-death), but you can do a lot worse with Game Boy platformers. Notably, The Smurfs has the weirdest Super Game Boy original back ground I've ever seen.... a black border? Okay. NEXT!

I want to like Heiankyo Alien, but it's just not my style. First of all, apologies that the cartridge was having so much trouble reading -- luckily it held out for us long enough. It's a solid enough puzzle/platformer, with some variance in enemy types, but the game becomes boring after legitimately less than 5 minutes.

It is neat that they give you the original version of the game on the cart, but I just didn't click with Heiankyo Alien -- regardless, thanks for watching!
