CiB Let's Try - Ghoul Patrol (SNES)
Ghoul Patrol was released in November 1994 was a Super Nintendo exclusive. It was published by LucasArts, and published by JVC -- JVC published a fair share of LucasArts games, including Super Star Wars and Indiana Jones for SNES.
I triple-checked: Ghoul Patrol is indeed the sequel to Zombies Ate My Neighbors (1993). Interestingly, Zombies was published by Konami. Zombies sold pretty well, so although I'm not sure of the exact reason why Konami didn't return to publish Ghoul Patrol, my guess would be it's because Ghoul Patrol is really not very good.
I've never been the biggest fan of Zombies Ate My Neighbors. It has some real qualities to it -- the art style is memorable, it has a great soundtrack, and it is a solid two player experience. I personally find that Zombies is too difficult and becomes too 'samey' too quick. Zombies is definitely a -good- game, but it seems a lot of people consider it a classic.
Well, after playing Ghoul Patrol, it certainly makes Zombies look better. Apparently Ghoul Patrol has about half the levels that Zombies does, but every level we played through was such a slog -- 9 people you have to save, all in different directions, making each level take what feels too be too long to complete.
The biggest complaint would have to be the controls. They are slippery and momentum-based and quite frankly, I don't like them. I'm curious to see if the re-release fixed any of the problems with Ghoul Patrol, but the way it stands, you can safely ignore the SNES release. Thanks for watching!
