CiB Let's Try - Jimmy Johnson's VR Football 98 (PS1)
Playstation 1 is truly the 'Wild West' of video game systems. In the early days of 3D, it seemed like every developer tried to throw their hat into the massively popular PS1 ring and produced some of the most random, odd games of all-time. Recently, we sat down with a stack of PS1 games we never heard of, and the results are... unsurprising.
I picked this game because the box art looks AWESOME (seriously, look it up). It's 11-on-11 football and it's... fine. But let's talk about the developer and publisher.
Padded Cell Studios developed this game. As far as I can tell, this is the only game this particular studio did. Padded Cell Studios was a subsidiary of GameTek, which I have heard of. They did uh... Pinball Dreams and Pinball Fantasies for SNES, as well as versions of Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Hollywood Squares, and Family Feud. Yay...
Jimmy Johnson's VR Football 98 was actually published by Interplay, which was a pretty solid publisher. They started the Fallout series, as well as Baldur's Gate, Clayfighter, Earthworm Jim, Lost Vikings, Rock 'N Roll Racing, and of course, Trog!
See, I told you the developer and publisher was more interesting than the game itself - thanks for watching!
