Playstation 1 is truly the 'Wild West' of video game systems. In the early days of 3D, it seemed like every developer tried to throw their hat into the massively popular PS1 ring and produced some of the most random, odd games of all-time. Recently, we sat down with a stack of PS1 games we never heard of, and the results are... unsurprising.

Hey, another game that falls under the 'pleasantly surprised' category!

Sol Divide reminds me a lot of - well, a lot of Japanese Turbografx-16 games. In fact, I was playing a pretty similar game on the Turbografx mini that was a side-scrolling shooter where you had both a close range (strong), as well as a ranged (weak) attack, where you don't actually die in one hit.

Trev brings up a good point - this video is only 10 minutes long, but all things considered, we started to get weary of the game in that time. Maybe the key to side-scrolling shooters actually -IS- dying in one hit. It makes you constantly pay attention, and you definitely feel better about beating a level that way than just powering through one of these bosses. I fully realize that you still have to play it smart to get through the whole game here, but you're inclined not to.

Still, Sol Divide is really surprising, and seems like a good arcade port to me. Let's get more random PS1 games like this, please!
