I spent an afternoon climbing up, over, and down the backside of a mountain in the desert while exploring the abandoned Roosevelt Mine. This mine was dug in 1865 and is almost 150 years old! It appeared that the entire mountain had been dug out to resemble Swiss cheese. Many open stopes were on the side of the mountain with tunnels and shafts leading to other levels. I explored the main haulage tunnel (at least for the uppermost workings). Outside the tunnel is an wooden, inclined trestle that was used to transport the ore down to the lower ore bin and loading area.
