Codename Iceman was quite stressful
The mere mention of the name Sierra makes old adventure game fans sweat. Not out of joy or nostalgia, but out of pure fear. Anyone who dared to try King's Quest, Space Quest, or Larry back then knew that this wasn't a pleasant after-work game, but a psychological endurance test.
And yet, as absurd as all these nastinesses were, the Quest series probably wasn't the worst Sierra had to offer. Because somewhere in Sierra's dark labs sat a guy named Jim Walls, chuckling darkly to himself and thinking: Hey, how about I turn a manual on "How to Pilot a Submarine" and a NATO dossier on Cold War diplomacy into an adventure game?
The result was a monster called Codename Iceman, which saw the light of day in '89. A game created solely to torture adventure game fans and drive them insane. And the best part was that people even voluntarily spent their pocket money on it!
