Combining microtraffic models and complex vehicular simulators

A system combining a detailed microtraffic scene and a complex vehicle simulator is used to study powertrain impacts on greenhouse gas and fuel consumption at a microscopic level. Individual vehicles and their systems are observed while they interact with other vehicles in a validated virtual transient traffic scene.

This development provides a realistic repeatable testbed for design and technological comparisons regarding emissions and energy use. Examples of the proposed system will be presented and discussed.
