Run the Gauntlet, developed by Impact Software and Published by Ocean in 1989.

"Infernal Challenge - Hot from the television series - the toughest, most exciting, multi-machine assault course to hit your screens! Simulating the skills of controlling the Jet Skis, the speed of the buggys, the sheer guts and stamina required for The Hill and much, much more! Run wild - Run The Gauntlet!"

The game has two versions. Tape with a set event list and Floppy plays here, which gives random events. In hindsite I should probably have played the tape version as the random event generator heavely favours the water events. It took more than a few tries to get a selection of events to play through. Far to often it would make you play through the same event upto 4 times!. Iused the Triangle crack release to record thegame which seems to have made the game much easier than what I remember. There were no trainer options.

The idea of thegame is to play through a list of sporting events taking points for each win and eventually take the trophy. The events are mostly the same on water or land driving around in different vehicle speed classes. If you are unlucky, you will get to play on The Hill which is a real test of skill and endurance. The controls make no sense and you have to wiggle/charge you speed bay while controlling your character and jumping obstacles. Then there is the rope climb where you have to move through each of the joystick directions. down left right up, down left up right..... (or something to that effects). Just hope the game doesn't choose this event 4 times.

When all is said and done, it's a nicely presented game with some crunchy music that sounds notably better on real hardware. It would be more fun to play if it made you go through all events only once but just varied the order in which they are played.
