Congo's Caper is a decent platformer and one of the "missing links" in the Joe & Mac series. This is actually what some would call Joe & Mac 2. J&M2: Lost in the Tropics is the 3rd SNES title. The reasoning behind it is because the Japanese game is linked to the series with Joe and Mac known as Tatakae Genshijin. Congo's Caper is also known as Tatakae Genshijin 2: Rookie no Bouken. Within this game, you can find a cameo of Joe as a statue clad in a suit of prehistoric armor during a few of the bonus levels.

The game leans on the very easy side with no adjustable difficulty. In the game, you play as Rookie who, along with his soulmate Ai Ai, are just chilling one day as ordinary monkeys when some red orbs fall from the sky that empower them and make them become part primate, part human. This startles their monkey friends who run away and from this point on, Rookie and Ai Ai know that they're special... but so do the bad guys, who come out of nowhere and kidnap Ai Ai and wound Rookie. Luck would soon smile upon Rookie again as he gains another red orb and goes to rescue Ai Ai.

Rookie is a strong caveman-primate who can flip high into the air, push and shove his foes, and whack them with his club. If he gets hit while as a caveman, he'll revert into a weaker monkey who will die if hit again. However, if you can collect three red orbs, Rookie will become more powerful (super saiyan, lol) and can jump really high and withstand several hits. Gaining red orbs while Rookie is "all-powerful" grants you extra lives. The game has several levels and bosses to face. This video goes through the first world. Enjoy.
