A cover of the song "Constant Motion" by the band Dream Theater, from their album "Systematic Chaos".
Since I ever discovered Dream Theater, one of my goals as a guitar player is to be able to play a whole song all the way through. Especially glad to do a cover of a song of the first DT album I listened to! Over the years I've learned a ton of Dream Theater riffs and parts of songs, but there's always been one or two parts that stumps me, either the solo, a super technical riff or a section that doesn't repeat and makes it difficult to remember. With this cover, I've finally completed that goal!
We actually recorded this a year and a half ago (as shown by the vocal video recorded in my old house) but semi-shelved it because I couldn't get the mix quite up to snuff, however I recently purchasd Neural DSP's Archetype Petrucci so I figured I'd give it another shot!
The rhythm parts weren't too difficult for me since I've known them for quite a while now, but the solo was definitely the most challenging one I've had to learn. A late disclaimer, this cover isn't supposed to be an exact copy of the original, but more of my take with it, such as slightly different keys (as I am no Jordan Rudess myself) and I changed the solo slightly to fit more my style, as well as not being able to pull of those crazy sweeps near the end, so I changed it to tapping.
A special thanks to Noble for absolutely killing this beast of a song, and also a massive special thanks to Robbie for chipping in with vocals on this one, as he is a far better singer than I could ever hope to be, and his voice is much more suited to DT songs than my own!
