A cover of Shadow's Theme, from the video game Final Fantasy VI.
Been a little while since my last FF6 cover, but the game is so damn good, and the music is definitely on par with FF7, so you can bet I'll eventually be doing more covers in the future of this game! In my opinion, Shadow is definitely one of the more interesting characters in the game, as he probably joins and leaves the most, and has a lot of very interesting backstory that's also very easy to miss out on! On top of that, I think he has one of the most recognisable themes in the game (after Terra's and Kefka's theme of course) so I couldn't really think of reasons not to cover this!
I really like the country/western vibe this theme has and wanted to keep that part of the song relatively similar to the original, but I also had a few ideas to turn it heavy! I decided to give it the same treatment I gave my Lasaria Woodland cover from Xenoblade 2 where I arranged both an acoustic and heavy section into one song! I had a slightly more coherent plan in mind for this, wanting this sound like one of Metallica's power ballads like One, Fade To Black etc, although in the end it kinda sounds nothing like them! In the acoustic section, there's also a small Opeth reference so bonus points if you can figure that one out!
I also decided to have both an acoustic solo (as well as a metal solo) just to add to the western vibe, but I was really struggling to come up with a good idea. Thankfully, DisposedHeroVGM was up for the job! As a big fan of the awesome solos he puts in his covers, as well as his acoustic covers, I decided to ask him to combine those two and he sent me the perfect solo for this song, absolutely nails what I had in mind for the song!
