4This went well until the last couple of stages - then it turned into a disaster. Not terribly difficult to 1cc with hit points.

- So I did this once in the morning, playing with my headset unplugged, because for some reason Bill's voice was doubling in the audio. However, I forgot to disable my laptop mic and it recorded my cursing when I'd get hit. Second attempt in the late morning, mic disabled, but my recording program must have enabled the mic, which is why you hear ambient noise and me clearing my throat at times. Sorry about that.
- I learned about swapping weapons quickly and firing by watching a video for boss strategies. Switching weapons resets the fire cool down, which makes you fire a LOT faster. I used that whenever I could on bosses.
- Contra as a series has a lot of twitch gameplay. Memorization is important, but if you don't have a strong offense to clear out enemies, you're going to die no matter how good you are at dodging.
- You can see that I'd compound my mistakes when I'd take a hit and then take more immediately afterward because I'd get flustered trying to recover.
- You can notice in stages 5 and 7 how the music doesn't restart after a miniboss - dunno why that is, not that big a deal, but worth mentioning.
- Bill Rizer is my run n gun hero. I used to play as him in Shattered Soldier and my girlfriend, wife, and then ex-wife would play as Lucia. I'm happy that she's in the game too. I enjoy Bill's talk in COG, being a macho cool guy, whereas in CSS he's more somber after he'd been imprisoned. It was nice character development - doesn't matter - only gameplay matters, and you have to pay attention to notice the story beats.
- Contra Operation Galuga is my game of the year for 2024. I know this is uploaded in March 2024, but it's highly unlikely that anything else will come out and surpass it. I love Contra, and WayForward did an excellent job with this one.
- I was happy that you can have hit points in COG. Who needs 30 lives when you can tank hits? Yeah, a little new school for some peoples' tastes, but I like it.
- The perks I used were +2 Hit Points and retain powered up weapons when taking a hit.
- Hard is more than fair in this game. It actually spawns more turrets at times, making you strategize more as opposed to just killing stronger enemies.
- Steve Blum voiced Master Contra in Neo Contra, and his tough, cool guy voice fits Bill Rizer in all the right ways. I'm happy that WayForward got him back to voice Bill in COG.
- Contra: Shattered Soldier was the very first set of videos that I uploaded in early 2006. My original intent was just to S-Rank stage 6 and be done... but it got a decent amount of views and I thought "Oh, okay? Maybe I'll do the rest of the game," and here we are now. I deleted those videos because I didn't understand copyright claim back then and didn't want to get in trouble, and I'm kinda sorry that I did now, haha. I don't monetize my videos, so I don't care if someone claims it because of the music.
- At the very end when I show the final score screen, you can see my Steam name up top. doctornusakan is from the associated email. It's old, like 25 years old in 2024.
