I just wanted to take another look at this CRT bezel shader and talk a little bit more about emulation vs FPGA vs real HW and remind everyone that using emulation even with a real CRT is an option too! I also got thinking about how CRT's won't be around forever. They all have a limited life span in terms of hours of use and as they're continued to be used they will eventually loose usable brightness and focus. Eventually they'll all be dead! With no one making new CRT's tubes what is going to happen in 20 years when you want to find a working CRT? How much will one of the rare few that are still working cost? Eventually there may come a time when there are no working CRT's left!

Motion clarity is something that often comes up when talking about CRT's and no doubt that's one aspect where they still shine. But modern 120Hz OLED TV's IMHO might come close enough for most people. I'm not super picky when it comes to motion clarity but obviously I can tall the difference between an LCD and a CRT. But I think I'd be %100 satisfied with the motion clarity on a 120Hz OLED with BFI. Technically it may not match a CRT on paper but in the real world I'm willing to bet it's close enough for most people. OLED's have replaced Plasma and other than the price holding them back could replace LCD too but what will replace OLED? What if in 10 years we have TV's that cost the same as an LCD but with motion clarity that can match a CRT? Perhaps we can have affordable mass produced FPGA mini consoles that can output native 120Hz BFI without the need for expensive scalers! This kind of new technology will only get better and better and emulation will be there along for the ride.
