Originally released in Arcades in 1999, Cruis'n Exotica is the last game within the "Cruis'n" series to be released on the N64, released only in the U.S. late in 2000 for N64 and Game Boy Color. Published by Midway and developed by Crawfish Interactive, the game attempts to do a few cool things from a programmable standpoint on the GBC, but it's just flat-out terrible. I think the footage will more than speak for itself, but here's what I feel needs to be said.

Crawfish should be given at least a bit of credit in the audio/visual department; the good is that the graphics engine allows smooth scrolling on the roads which produces a psuedo-3D sort of feel, and the game even has adjustable camera views to take advantage of this. Additionally, the music sounds "Cruis'n" enough and is pretty good. The bad is that the game had to use colors sparingly to produce the graphic effects by spending far more time on the environments than car and obstacle details, with many cars only being comprised of two colors and often appearing on screen as glitchy blobs. The ugly is that the framerate is choppy (especially on many ramps which serve more to throw you uncontrollably off the road than give you a heightened sense of speed), the game has crappy rubberband physics making it a struggle to place first even if you race perfectly and take advantage of every speed-boosting opportunity, collision detection is absolutely horrid, tricks just look stupid and make the already jank physics seem even worse as you fly over and through everything, cars often just drive right through you when they should bump you, obstacles have almost no effect on your speed unless you spend a prolonged period of time off-road, and the game is outright boring. You can beat in-game records and still lose races by a big margin.

You can gain mileage and unlock new cars like in the N64 game, but they have almost no differences between them and won't stop the computer from just disappearing into the sunset when they feel so inclined, and as "Freestyle Mode" allows you to see all the tracks without having to actually earn them, I often found myself asking what the point of this conversion was. There are very few videos of this game for a reason. The bottom line? Just avoid it unless you're a completist. It's just not worth the frustration.
