“THIS WORLD IS EMPTY AND COLD; MY LONELINESS CUTS ME AND TORTURES MY SOUL…”
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
This is the story of Simon Henriksson, a young man who has felt alone for most of his life – a burden which caused him to grow increasingly depressed, bitter and angry over the years. Now, each day feels like a desperate struggle to retain what little is left of his broken mind, and although he has been trying his best to endure it all, nothing ever seems to get better. But as if his predicament were not terrible enough, even these experiences could not have possibly prepared Simon for the horrors of that fateful night in the city of Fäversholm. While on his routinely way home from college, he suddenly finds himself torn away from normality and instead plunged into a world beyond human comprehension – one where death is lurking around every corner. However, it still appears to be the same city, despite its now twisted and very much hostile nature. “Why is this happening to me of all people”, Simon wonders. “Is this a nightmare? It has to be, right? But when will I wake up? Home… I need to make it home. It is the only thing that matters.” So, haunted by maddening abominations and delusions, he sets out to reach his destination – not yet aware of the bitter truth that the countless demons before him are perhaps the least of his worries…

“Cry of Fear”, created by Swedish developer Team Psykskallar, started out as a total “Half-Life” conversion and was first released in 2012 after roughly four years of development, followed by a standalone version in 2013. This psychological first-person survival horror game, which was heavily inspired by both “Silent Hill” and “Resident Evil”, has often been touted as one of the best “Half-Life” modifications of all time and still deserves its well-earned reputation in present days. Personally, I have nothing but praise to offer, for I not only followed the entire development cycle from start to finish, but also Let’s Played “Cry of Fear” when it first came out and had a lovely time doing so. Truth be told, there is a whole lot more to this personal story; however, you will have to join me in order to discover it all. I highly recommend checking out the first two episodes, #00 and #01, for they serve as a proper introduction and will tell you everything you need to now. But in short, it simply felt tempting and appropriate to plunge myself into this nightmarish modification once more – a means to improve upon the somewhat subpar quality of my original project and also to relive those nostalgic days which took place nine years ago. So, is “Cry of Fear” still as scary as it was back then? Does this experience still hold up nowadays? I could write so much more, but rather than doing that, perhaps it would be for the best to just start playing. Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for being here… I hope that you will enjoy this blast from the past… Well, unless you are new, in which case you are more than welcome to stick around and experience something breath-taking.
