This is the story of Arthur, a lonely man whose life is about to change dramatically. Upon learning about the disappearance of his uncle Edgar, he hastily sets out to investigate the latter’s apartment in search of answers. However, nothing could have prepared him for their full extent – not only does the world he believed to know and understand hide terrible secrets beyond human comprehension, but it would also appear that Edgar played an important role in their dark and occult machinations. Haunted by his discoveries, nightmares visions soon begin to invade Arthur’s mind, each one pushing him ever closer towards the edge of insanity. It becomes clear that something must be done in order to break the curse which he has found himself at the mercy of – but can he truly embark on such a dangerous journey and safely return from it, or will the encroaching madness ultimately consume yet another soul who had the misfortune of stumbling upon the cosmic truth?

“The Alien Cube”, released on the 14th of October 2021, is a Lovecraftian first-person horror adventure game and was developed as well as published by a single individual, one Alessandro Guzzo – the same fellow who brought us the excellent “The Land of Pain” back in 2017. Utilising the impressive capabilities of the well-known CryEngine, Mr Guzzo understands his handiwork and knows how to create haunting yet beautiful environments that are filled to the brim with details and atmosphere; thus, using his first game as a foundation to build upon, this spiritual successor not only expands upon the established story and universe, but it also manages to show off how much Mr Guzzo has learned and improved ever since “The Land of Pain”, delivering a polished experience that is sure to leave behind an impactful impression as well as some fond memories – and I do mean it most sincerely, regardless of how promotional all of this must sound to you. Decent Lovecraftian horror games are hard to come by these days; consequently, it fills my heart with joy whenever a promising one chooses to appear. “The Land of Pain” was by no means perfect, but it managed to keep me engaged and also left me wanting more. Well, it sure looks like that time has finally arrived, am I right? How about it, ladies and gents? Are you in the mood for another tale of eldritch abominations, nameless horrors, and fathomless dread? Join me, and together we shall find out what spooky shenanigans Mr Guzzo’s latest project has to offer.
