For someone who hasn't tried rogue-likes before, Cryptark, produced by Alientrap Games, combines its elements with twin-stick shooting and makes repetition part of improving yourself.
Sure, the loading screens can take too long, and the framerate slows down because of the game's chaotic nature, but these are outweighed by what it does right - creating a rogue-like that's fun yet rewarding.
