Cuphead: The Mausoleum || Theremin and Brass Cover - dannymusic
Yet another spooktacular performance from the Spectre Syndicate.
Here's a quick, real high-class cover from one of my favorite soundtracks in all of video games, Cuphead! The Mausoleum is an optional minigame in each area of Inkwell Isle in which you parry an onslaught of pink ghosts away from the Legendary Chalice. Upon successfully doing so, you get Super Arts that can be used against bosses.
The Mausoleum is a short but sweet theme set for the unusual combination of full-blown pipe organ and ghastly synth. My goal was essentially to recreate the original using the instruments that I play instead, and it was a pretty natural fit!
After months of not touching it, I've been playing a lot of theremin lately and found that I really missed it! Though, uhh, I'm still not touching it because the instrument is played without physical contact. Instead, it's based on proximity; the closer the right hand is to the vertical antenna, the higher the pitch, and the farther the left hand is from the horizontal antenna, the louder the volume.
I recently discovered an easy way to record theremin direct, and it's nice to finally be able to play an instrument in my apartment at late hours without bothering anyone. While it's not my primary instrument, it's a unique thing that I do, and I love it and want to keep practicing and improving!
Speaking of "not my primary instrument," this also features a euphonium, on loan from Robby of The Game Brass! I'm not super comfortable with the valve positions yet, but the lowest part was easy enough, and I added an effect to double the euphonium sound down an octave to get a true organ-like pedal bass! Also returning after a brief hiatus is the alto trombone!
Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy this Halloween treat!
