Gotta collect them all!

Here's one for the old school Poke Fans! The Pokemon Trading Card Game for Game Boy combines the gameplay of Gen I with the mechanics of the TCG for a unique and fun experience. This is the theme that plays in the overworld as you travel from club to club collecting eight Master Medals by defeating the Club Masters who use type-specific decks, culminating with a battle against the Grand Masters who use the infamous Legendary Pokemon Cards which you yourself obtain upon their defeat. Also, you have a rival Ronald who challenges you at various steps throughout the way, including at the very end.

Sounds familiar, right? Yeah, the Pokemon TCG video game structurally bears a lot of resemblance to the prototypical Pokemon formula. However, it is unique in that you can, with few exceptions, defeat the clubs in nearly any order you like! This is useful because if your starter deck (or the cards that you collect) are weak to a certain type, you can save that battle for later after you've collected more cards. There are also several characters along the way who give you additional promo cards, a few optional battles and tournaments, and a very in-depth tutorial for those who don't know how to play the Pokemon Trading Card Game initially.

This soundtrack is one of my favorites! While the Overworld theme is lively and peaceful, I particularly enjoy its chromaticism and epic rock influences. For my rendition, I tried to capture a bit of the feeling of looking back on the game years later - this involves some drama, some melancholy, some thick chords, and a hint of jazz.

It's been a while since I uploaded, eh? I'm currently studying for a DMA in Music Composition, which has been taking a lot of my time and creative energy, but it's going really well so far! Now that it's nearly summertime, I hope to be doing more stuff with this channel soon. In the meantime, however, I've also been keeping active with arranging and recording with The Game Brass, a classically influenced video game brass quintet.
