Our playthrough of Cyborg Justice, a robot brawler game made by Novotrade (later named Appaloosa) in 1993 for the Genesis. In this game you are a Galactic Unity Agent who crash-lands a spaceship in a meteor storm and have your brain put into a robot body. The attempt to wipe your memory is not completely successful though, and you tear through many other cyborgs in five stages of brawling action on your way to stop the Cydrek Federation from launching a surprise attack on the Galactic Unity!

This game features a surprisingly complex set of moves for your character, as well as quite a few customization options. You can pick your arms, torso, and legs to suit your play style; some are heavy and do more damage, some are suited for ranged combat, and some legs are extra nimble or are heavily armored enough to ignore traps. Each stage has three subsections through which one must fight other cyborgs one or two at a time, often with traps in the way or missiles coming in from offscreen.

The combat is by far the most interesting part of the game. Your character can do punch combos, pick up and throw enemies, backhand an incoming aerial enemy, use the special attack of your arms, and even rip the limbs and torso off of your opponent! Taking their torso allows you to use their energy to replenish your own health. Some of the other robots can do the same, however, and if your own torso gets ripped off it's an instant game over no matter how much life you had! It's a lot of fun to tear through enemies, tricking them into walking into deadly missiles and tearing one apart while the other is briefly incapacitated, and it turns out that ripping limbs and torsos off is not only immensely satisfying but one of the best strategies to get through the game.

I loved the graphics and combat and variety of bodies but where this game fell a little short was the repetitiveness of it. Once you have a good grasp of how to beat your enemies down effectively the game doesn't offer a great deal of challenge until the finale which is a different type of fight. Still, it's fun to see all the different cyborg types and a blast to tear them apart. I recommend giving this one a spin if you've never heard of it. It will help to have the manual and move list handy though! -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/soltyd
