Our playthrough of Data East's port of the arcade game Midnight Resistance for the Genesis! In this game you take control of Johnny Ford on his mission to rescue his family from the drug lord King Crimson. The game allows you to lock your firing direction in place while moving about, giving some more movement options like a stage where you run away from oncoming enemies while firing back at them.

During the game you collect keys by defeating enemies (a little like Heavy Barrel, another Data East game) and at the end of each stage you're given the opportunity to spend those keys for weapons, sub-weapons, and other upgrades like ammo, a supercharger, and 1-ups. The supercharger will upgrade whatever weapon you are using; in our playthrough, we primarily used the 3-way shot and it made the shots larger.

This game is nice for scrolling in all directions and making use of that for stages that are vertical as much as horizontal, with big enemies and bosses that can be larger than the entire screen!
