No, this game has nothing to do with rats. πŸ˜„ D-Con means Defense Command. You're in a jet fighter shooting down hordes of UFOs to defend territories on your home world. It's a cross between Defender and Missile Command, or somewhat like a 90s version of Turret Tower. Your weapons are a cannon and some bombs (you'll get plenty of those... don't be too sparing with them). Watch the radar for enemy locations. Things you defend include a city, a naval fleet, and an airport.

After an enemy wave is cleared, the boss comes out. Actually I find the boss battles to be the easy part. Destroy the boss, then get a bonus for bombs left and also how much of your territory is left standing. Don't expect to get through a level without some damage being taken. Good luck avoiding more than 90% damage. The enemies are more aggressive than you would think.

I like this game, though it may have been more interesting to have it use a light gun.
