There are also two Mega Drive versions- one by Tengen for the West, and Namco's own for Japan with different voices. The MD Western version is actually inferior to this PC-Engine one, with removed voices, scratchy sound, and less color. Klax has been ported to many other systems, even PlayStation.
A klax is a row of 3 matching tiles or more. One made of 4 tiles will count as 2 klaxes, and a 5-tile klax counts as 3. Chain reaction klaxes will trigger a multiplier. If the 5x5 grid is filled or you let too many tiles drop, the game ends. Later levels add more colors of tiles.
Some waves allow warping many stages ahead if you make a big X pattern.
From the options menu, you can change the Window Palette (I recommend using A). Enabling Ramping makes the difficulty rise over time, which mirrors the arcade game's behavior.
