If you want my general thoughts on Daikatana see the description of my previous video. I still think its a good game for its time! It has the good and bad of what made late 90's FPS games. Here I will go into a few more specifics of what I think of the game and its place in time. Get it? Because Daikatana is about going back in time! Well if you don't get it, then watch the video as we eventually end up in a place looking like Ancient Greece, with magical weapons!

This part of Daikatana suffers a bit from low resolution textures which end up blurry with the texture filtering. But this is not unique to Daikatana as many games on the console suffered from this issue. Even with texture filtering off, you find that many of these games have inconsistent texture resolutions and look even worse without filtering. Many games, particularly AAA games, suffer from this still. So this isn't a knock on Daikatana, but more of an unfortunate reality for a ton of games.

The music tracks are getting a little repetitive at this point, they seem to be short loops on indefinite repeat. Oh and I accidentally recorded in mono, but the music is in stereo. Some of the tracks are good, but on short repeat its too much.

It is interesting that Ancient Greece has new enemies and weapons. It actually seems like the enemies are buffed against the tech weapons, so you end up using the Greek weapons like a trident. I like that they don't take your tech weapons away, so you can still use them in a pinch. Although it is kind of weird that tech weapons don't just annihilate ancient enemies.

I have recorded a part 3 of this. But my Elgato capture device glitched and most of the footage is gone. I recommend getting an AverMedia capture device, as Elgato has been nothing but trouble for me. But I got to "medieval" times where there was a horrible music puzzle. My wife and I are both musicians and neither of us could figure it out without looking it up. Right now I am having more fun playing Quake 2 on the N64, so I will probably stop playing Daikatana for now. I will probably pick it up again later, and hopefully there is less silly puzzles as Daikatana is actually a decent game for the year it came out.
