A playthrough of Taito's 1991 Super NES-exclusive entry to the classic Darius shoot-em-up series, Darius Twin.

Played through on the normal difficulty mode (which is oddly the most difficult mode available), all other options left at default.

This is I think my favorite shooter - not just on the SNES, but overall. It was the first "modern" shooter I had played at the time - modern meaning 16-bit. Sure, I loved Gradius, Life Force, Starship Hector and the like, but this was in a completely different league! (Well, okay, I'd probably have a hard time choosing between this and Air Zonk, but that's not my focus here).

My friend Mike and I were nine the year the SNES launched, and we both got it for Christmas that year. His parents bought him Darius Twin with his, so we always played this when I'd bike over to his house after school. He was always playing the ever-living hell out of it - and I loved it as much as he did. Weird, trippy music set to exploding robot fish? Power Rangers wasn't around yet, so this was badass. I bugged him over and over to borrow it, but he wasn't interested.

But he didn't get F-Zero like I did that Christmas, and that was my bargaining chip to borrow his Darius Twin game. He had been wanting to borrow it too, so I finally convinced my parents to allow me to swap games with him (it was, after all, a $60 cart in 1991, I only had had it a couple weeks yet), and so I finally got to play Darius Twin at home! We both tore into those games, and within about two weeks we had both completely mastered the games - he won the championship mode on the hardest F-Zero mode, and I beat hardest difficulty level on Darius Twin with the best ending.

Then we traded back, and I was happy to have F-Zero back so I could beat it for umpteenth time. I always did miss Darius Twin though, and whenever my parents were like, "Hey, do you want a game?" we were never at a store that had it. And seriously, I was 9. It's not like I had the willpower to say, "No thanks, I don't want a Super Nintendo game. I'll wait until we find a copy of Darius Twin, if we ever do." Yeah, right. Anyways, sorry for the super long nostalgia rant - this game brings back so many memories! It's awesome.

I put all five endings at the end of the video, in case you haven't seen them all.

25:14 Final boss battle and best ending - earned by not losing any lives, getting two 1-ups, following the shown stage path, and killing every mini and major boss before they escape

27:51 Earned the same way but with one life lost

29:45 Earned the same way but with two lives lost

31:42 Earned if you allow Super Alloy Lantern to escape

33:39 Earned if you die more than twice or follow a different route

I played this quite awhile back for the channel, but it's only 30fps and someone brought to my attention that the flickering killed the bullets in certain spots, so here is an improved video (and I play quite a bit better in this than the last one!)

Hope you enjoy it!
