Dark Souls 3: Nice Invasion with a Nice Host (W/Nicemail)
9I've gotten plenty of hatemail over my time of playing Dark Souls. Generally it's for things such as getting pivot backstabs, or using a particular item, and in some cases it's just that I had the nerve to use an in game mechanic to invade someone. Something I rarely get however is nicemail/likemail, I have maybe received only 4-8 instances of likemail overall (not counting afk mail), in comparison to 20-30 hatemails. In most cases it was a simple "thank you" for giving a host some embers or items, a happy sticker for helping them find a secret or bonfire, and in one case it was because someone recognized my build from my main YouTube channel (that one made me really happy).
During this whole invasion I wasn't exactly sure what to think about the host but seeing the full Dancer's armor I admittedly assumed that he/she had very low vigor and defenses. As such, seeing the hiding spot and blue summon notification I figured I'd put my focus on killing blue summons instead and then 1v1 the host. During the 1v1 I found that the host, despite not being an expert in pvp, had a very solid understanding of the game and actually did have good vigor investment. I figured I'd try using the Follower's Torch as I had been wanting to use it for a while in a serious but not sweaty tryhard fight. The heavy and hard to predict use of charged R2s the host was throwing out had to respected though.
Hatemail overall is overrated in my opinion, as I initially alluded to in the first paragraph it's usually just people being mad and salty at their misunderstanding of some game mechanics. As such they're generally forgettable within a few days. Likemail however is a rare oddity that comes only because you left some sort of lasting impression. In some cases like this it can even lead to small friendships, the messages I didn't scroll down to display were of a longer conversation about souls in general.
