The rules here are, just collect souls and learn to live with them (and the fear of losing them). No bonfire rest allowed (although if I die once I will get a refill whether I like it or not). If I get soul items, use them immediately to increase the number. Not allowed to spent any (so no buying from merchants, no levelling up, no upgrade of weapons). If I die once and the souls are there to collect, I can try to reach them. If I die twice without collecting then the challenge is over.

I reached 45024 souls the first time. But I started playing badly near the middle. And then I got tired and wanted this to end.
