Dark Souls Remastered! Peak Map Design, Lore & Backseat Gaming - PC (Part 2 of 5)
I felt bad we didn't get to finish the original Dark Souls, so I had to return to this after clearing out more of my backlog. I'm playing the remastered version just to save the headache of setting this up quickly. These aren't my type of games, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Demon Souls so I wanted to see more. I can say right away that the map design is amazing for its time. There is no central hub with warps; the entire world is connected. The gameplay is the main focus, with unlimited types of builds and weapons you can choose that dynamically change how you fight. A ton of big boss fights that aren't as puzzle-focused as Demon Souls. One thing I really like is how the bonfires are placed much closer, so you can retry and get right back into it. The new Estus Flask limits the number of times you can heal as well. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the story itself and the cryptic lore. This is obviously my opinion, but I felt it was very difficult to immerse myself in the world itself through gameplay alone. I'm glad I finally got to play this with my chat leading the way. We also played through the extra DLC content, with the late-game battles being the most intense and enjoyable. This is Part 2 of our playthrough.
