Dead or Alive ++ [ARCADE, 1998]: Arcade Playthrough with Ayane (C3)
Ah... back when side-stepping wasn't a thing and Ayane was still had quite a bit of Kasumi DNA in her moveset...
Speaking of arcade exclusive fighting games from back in the day, here's one that was considered rare. Dead or Alive 1 originally was in arcades in 1996, and eventually ported over to the Playstation 1 in early 1998 with new characters at the time (Ayane & Bass) as well as the loss of ringouts. In a sort of test field for the upcoming sequel, Tecmo released back into arcades DOA++, based off of said PS1 version of the game. This would be the first game that introduced the tag mode, as well as the Critical Stun system and the Expert hold system... which was kind of interesting for the first version of things altogether. You see, DOA1 had a hold mechanic before, but it was just a simple high or low sabaki style parry that forced either a short counter attack or off-balance shove on success. With ++, a successful Expert Hold (Called a Pinpoint Hold in this game only) would result in the fancier counters that we know see on the regular in future games. Critical Hits were also quite a ways more subdued, in which they wouldn't cause stagger UNLESS it legit counter hit, unlike later games where certain moves can force critical stun normally.
The AI, while still challenging, isn't as brutal as the PS1 version (thank god), and actually is decently fun to fight this time around. Everyone has up to 4 outfits max, however, so that meant that many PS1 costumes didn't make the cut in this version.
