The first few hours of Dead Space 3 weren't exactly bad and featured several great set piece moments, but despite some controversial changes in this new installment (including an almost action RPG-esque combination of crafting and optional side quests) I actually feel that the game's major problem is just how *similar* it is to the two earlier atmospheric third-person action titles in the series. I guess this impression partly stems from the fact that - apart from some spectacular zero G environments - the veritable space ship graveyard in which the game starts simply isn't as memorable in either design or aesthetics as the Ishimura in DS1 or the Sprawl from DS2.
