Debug Code? Nope, it's JUST A PRANK! (Earthworm Jim, SNES) - Retrogaming Easter Eggs
1,158In Earthworm Jim for the SNES, there's a cheat code that allows you to access the Debug Mode, and that's nice... But there's also a code that was ORIGINALLY used for the debug mode, but then the developers changed it as a PRANK.
To access debug mode, pause the game at any time and press LEFT AND A, then let go of LEFT and press B, X, A, A, B, X, A. This will take you to the game's debug mode which has some cool features like a level select and invincibility. I'll make a whole short about this later.
But! If you pause the game at any time and press Y, A, B, B, A, Y, A, B, the game will take you to a bizarre screen showing the five faces of Nick Jones.
Who is Nick Jones? He wasn't the rapper guy who made that one song about his own name. You're thinking of Mike Jones.
Nick Jones was one of the game's programmers. Judging by the message in the code, it seems like YABBAYAB was the OLD DEBUG CODE that was used during development. However, it's implied that at one point, the other developers of the game changes the debug mode code and didn't inform Nick Jones about the change!
So essentially, this code was left in the game as a PRANK for Nick Jones (and other gamers) to discover.
