Already we have among us to Deepin 20.1 , the latest maintenance release of the popular distribution of Chinese origin for some time is based on Debian Stable, but modifying some of the essential components to improve hardware support and better adapt the system to its purposes.
Deepin 20.1 stands out for taking the base of Debian 10.6 and updating the kernel, which has gone from Linux 5.4 to Linux 5.8 . The reasons for these two changes are to improve hardware support and integrate the security updates that have been applied to the stable Debian branch in recent months. Due to the recent appearance of Linux 5.10 , those responsible for Deepin have announced that the latest version of the kernel will be supplied in the future through updates.
Apart from the essential components, Deepin 20.1 also highlights the performance improvements. “The operational efficiency of the processors, the transmission and response of the network, the reading and writing of files and the display of graphics have been significantly improved through the general optimization of the kernel codes and configurations; and conventional operations have been fully optimized . " These changes should offer a smoother experience with the system.
One of the great attractions of Deepin is its own desktop environment, which, at least on its own system, has an aesthetic finish that is very reminiscent of macOS. New power settings have been added to the desktop environment control panel with three plans: Balanced, Power Save, and High Performance . On the other hand, Bluetooth support has included the possibility of transferring files, which can save time when transferring small files between two computers or a mobile phone and a computer.
Regarding the pre-installed applications we find some substitutions, such as Firefox for Browser (based on Chromium), GParted for Disk Manager and Cheese for Camera , a decision that according to the developers of the system “enriches the ecology of the application , meets the needs of different scenarios and provides a unified user interface and interactive experiences. "
Lastly, and alongside the typical fixes that accompany these releases, we have Smart mirror, which "greatly improves the ISO download speed by analyzing its location and intelligently choosing neighboring mirror sites to accelerate the speed of download."
Deepin 20.1 can be downloaded from the corresponding section on the official website of the distribution . In addition to being based on Debian and having its own desktop environment, it is possibly the most interesting Linux system of all those that come from Asia, since apart from having a very attractive aesthetic finish, it intends to include features such as a personal assistant digital by voice .
