:: What's new in Slacko Puppy Linux 7 ::
Designed to boot on any x86 computer, the Slackware-based Puppy Linux 7.0 distribution arrives about three and a half years after the previous version with support for booting on 64-bit and 32-bit UEFI computers.
In addition, this release features experimental support for UEFI tools such as efivar, efivarfs, mokutil and sbsigntoo, as well as support for Puppy Linux's FrugalPup installer to install the distribution on UEFI computers and 64 or 32 bit BIOS on any local disk drive , USB or SD / MMC devices.
Other new features in Puppy Linux 7.0 Slacko64 include the ability to boot ISO files from the local disk drive or an external USB device, the ability to boot from eMMC drives and SD cards, fully compatible and interchangeable drive A and support for drive Y, and the ability to change kernels more easily.
Puppy Linux's default graphical environment has always been JWM (Joe's Window Manager) to provide the community with a very lightweight Linux distribution that they can use as their daily driver on desktop and laptop computers.
The new version updates the JWM window manager to version 2.3.6 and adds a number of improvements, such as improved system-wide icons, installers for Google Chrome, Opera, Brave and Vivaldi browsers, as well as updated Mozilla Firefox ESR browsers .
The open source multimedia framework FFmpeg was also introduced in Puppy Linux 7.0 Slacko64 to offer immediate support for multimedia programs such as MPlayer and pMusic, along with Samba to make file sharing between Windows and Linux PCs easier, and O Evince do GNOME is now used as a standard PDF viewer.
Under the hood, the distribution is powered by the Linux 4.19.164 LTS kernel and includes all the latest bug fixes and package updates from the Slackware 14.2 64-bit repositories.
For better hardware support, users will be able to install different kernels from the repositories after installing the distro on their personal computers.
