I've been working on adding deferred rendering to KSP, which will allow more modern rendering and lighting techniques to be used in-game.
One of the main advantages is also lighting performance, as seen here, the performance of the stock game will drop very quickly from over 100 fps to ~30 fps with multiple lights enabled, while in deferred the performance barely drops.
32 pixel lights are used, this was tested on my trusty 2080 super.
