Delta Air Lines Pilots Will Strike
0Although the majority of Delta Air Lines pilots voted on Monday to authorise a strike, passengers don't need to start altering their tickets just yet.
Since April 2019, the pilots and the airline have been in contract negotiations; since February 2020, they have also been in mediation. Due to COVID-19, the discussions were suspended from March 2020 to January 2022. Although a vote to authorise a strike doesn't guarantee that one will take place, union representatives say it's an essential step in the bargaining process.
"Our pilots have said very clearly that they’re willing to strike to achieve the contract we've earned," said Evan Baach, a spokesman for the Air Line Pilots Association and a captain at Delta. "We're hoping that this strike authorization ballot sends a clear message."
