DELTARUNE: Spamton | The Shop & The Empty Disk | Dub (Voice & Sound Design) | Ver.1
Part 2 of my Spamton dub series! The only thing left is, well, you know ;)
I've been working on this project since the end of September and I wanted to try to cover as much of the dialogue tied to Spamton's story as I could which included NPC dialogue as well. I originally wanted to publish this video on Halloween but, I got so excited that I decided to upload it on Mischief Night instead (so it worked out)!
I want to give a special thanks to Apple Lady for lending her voice for Susie in the video. I know I voiced female characters but, I can't voice all of them. Plus, she has a great voice for Susie!

I'll probably always find something that needs improvement but as far as things go in regards to this video of Spamton's in-game arc, I'm proud of the end product and even took additional steps the ensure the audio didn't get messed up (like some of my other videos). I imported the video to Drive and viewed it in mobile to confirm that all the audio is compatible for listening on mobile devices.
As for the video itself, I actually continued experimenting with sound occlusion so if you're wearing headphones, there are sfx that will actually be heard coming from different directions (if that makes sense). You'll get what I mean when you listen for it.
Spamton's segments in the video were hands-down the toughest and most tedious parts to work on (as some of my viewers on Discord probably can recall). I wanted to keep up with the expectations I set for myself in the first Spamton video by making the videos audioscape as chaotic as Spamton is animated.
The "buy more" bit was an improvised line from my live reading during my stream playthrough.
As for the other characters, the Werewire was an interesting one for me because I just sort of experimented with filters and vocal inflections that I felt make it sound like a Digimon because they look like ones.
The shop owners were just some weird voices I came up with while trying to not make them sound too similar to Spamton. I don't know why I made the first one sound Scottish but, it just kind of happened. The second one was just some sort of generic cartoon-y salesman voice.
I reused my live on-stream reading of Trashy's lines because the lines I recorded for him just weren't as good lol
Ralsei's voice is a more cleaned up version of the voice I gave him while streaming Chapter 1. I tried to make him sound as soft-spoken as possible. Somehow, he was one of the toughest for me to voice because I don't usually speak with a soft voice but in spite of that, I love voicing the fluffy boi.
Swatch was a fun one. I teased his inclusion on twitter a few days before uploading this and he was more well-received than I anticipated. I'll probably dub over all of his dialogue in the future.
And lastly, Spamton's voice. Its an evolution of the voice I gave him in the first video but, with a bit more development since its more than one-liners between gameplay. Learning more about his character design, I tried to emulate some effects from Max Headroom while still keeping the underlying influence of Ed Nelson Reilly.
One thing I'm sure viewers will notice is that made his twisted side a bit more noticeable in order to convey how eerie he is in the game. I don't think I need to elaborate on this too much because the video should really speak for itself (pun intended). I know a lot of people see Spamton as a loveable and quirky character but, I really wanted to go out of my way to convey how off the deep end he is in-game while voicing him because he is a pretty creepy character. A fun but creepy and tragic character; one that I love voicing.
On a lighter note, I tried to make the shopping dialogue sound like an auction because I thought it would be fun to read all of his purchasing options as a joke but, it ended up (unsurprisingly) fitting his character. It also served as a funny palette cleanser after all the exposition Talk monologue.
Sound design-wise, I felt adding Windows 95 sounds added that extra bit of charm to his 1997 vibes.
As for the thumbnail, I've illustrated metal album covers in the past as commissions and I thought I'd try using some of the skills from that to make Spamton look like something out of a Goosebumps book cover.
The thumbnail is also a considerably cleaned up and properly layered version of the one I did for the teaser video.
Anywho, I hope you all enjoy the video!
Expect the third and final part of his dubbed arc when its ready~
